The Flames from the College of St. Mary caught fire in January and preceded to go on a month long, 12 game win streak. Over that span, the Flames defeated (25) College of the Ozarks (Mo.) twice as the division foes played their annual two game series. The Flames currently sit twelfth in the Top-25 Coaches Poll. The team’s leading scorer is 6-foot-2-inch center Deaundra Young of Titusville, Fla. Young is averaging 18.2 points and 9.8 rebounds a game, with a 54% field goal percentage. The second leading scorer on the Flames Roster is 5-foot-6-inch guard Akia Davis with an average of 14.6 points per game. The Flames’ head coach, Chuck Brewer, is in his sixth season with the team alongside a pair of new coaches, Assistant Coach Karyn Bixler and Student Assistant Jessica Zaruba. The Flames finished last season with a record of 25-9 and 13-3 in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. With a loss to Davenport (Mich.) in the first round matchup in the National Championship, the Flames saw their season come to a prompt end and look to rebound this season.
