One of the No. 1 seeds in the 2016 NAIA Women’s Division II National Basketball Championships are the Tiger of Olivet Nazarene University. Out of Bourbonnais, Illinois, the Tigers earned a No. 1 seed after winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in a 24-point win over St. Ambrose. With a 27-5 overall record, ONU returned to the bracket after missing out on the tournament last year.

Led by Lauren Stamatis in her fourth season at the helm of the Tigers, ONU has been able to pick up many quality wins this year, while only suffering one bad loss. The Tigers won eight games against ranked teams this year, most notably defeating Saint Francis twice, both by double digits.

The Tigers are a high scoring team, leading NAIA Division II scoring 110.94 ppg, and leading in assists with 23.50 apg. Senior, Abbey Hengesbach, leads the Tigers in all categories, averaging 22.3 ppg (third in nation), 5.3 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.52 steals per game.

The Tigers will put their No. 1 seed on the line when they take on the Red Wolves of Indiana University-East in the first round of the championship on Thursday, March 10th and 3:30 pm at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
