Andy Chase is a sophomore at Hastings College who is double-majoring in journalism and broadcasting, both with an emphasis in sports. As a native to Hastings, Andy has been involved with many of the Hastings College sports teams prior to attending the college and is proud to be able to broadcast the Broncos’ sporting events.
Since joining HC Media his freshman year, Andy has learned many of the facets that go into a live production, such as camera operating, prep work, tech directing, commentating and post-production, as well as writing for sports. With learning the implications of all the parts of a broadcast, both through hands-on experience and classes, Andy has run camera, put together video recaps, tech directed an ESPN broadcast, written for the college newspaper, interned with the Hastings College Sports Information Director Adam Maser, commentated basketball and soccer, been involved with live radio broadcasts and has began learning to create a website.
Along with learning the ins-and-outs of productions and content, Andy had become the assistant sports content director in his second semester. In December, Andy also garnered the role of sports director of research and info. Once out of school, Andy would like to use his skills learned at Hastings College to be a successful sports information director.
When not at school or helping with HC Media, he is volunteering his time through AmeriCorps at an after school program for middle school students he used to attend called The Zone, which provides a drug-free, bully-free environment for students to have fun and get help with homework. Andy also enjoys watching baseball in his free time and, as a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, is excited for the start of the new season to see if the Cubs can make another run for a World Series Championship.
Andy is in his second year of going to Sioux City for the NAIA Division-II Women’s Basketball National Championship, and is excited to learn even more while also helping the people new to the championship get the best out of the learning experience.
