Sam Bennett is ecstatic to be returning for his third year in Sioux City. As a senior double major in broadcasting and journalism, Bennett has held multiple leadership positions in HC Media. Most recently, he was the executive producer for HCTV, as well as an assistant sports director and the president of the Hastings’ chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists. He also was a DJ for the college’s radio station and currently provides both color and play-by-play commentary for soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. Previously, he spent three semesters as the station manager of 90.1 KFKX, as well as the bureau chief for both arts and entertainment and politics. Prior to his term as station manager, he was simultaneously both the news and music director for the station.
When not working on HC Media broadcasts, he has interned with the music journalism organization Hear Nebraska and the independent baseball team, the Lincoln Saltdogs. He produced a 45-minute documentary on independent baseball during the fall of 2017 and has co-directed multiple award-winning short films with fellow crew member Josh Hulbert.
In his free time, he attempts to play guitar, frequents concerts in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, memorizes an obscene amount of baseball statistics and binge watches the “X Files” and “Fargo.”
