Allen J. Hamil is currently in his senior year at Hastings College, majoring in Broadcasting with a Sports Emphasis and minoring in Economics.
Hamil served as Sports Director for HC Media over a span of four years. He stepped down from his full-time position and the day-to-day operations of the sports team at the conclusion of the fall semester, but continues to help as Sports Director Emeritus.
Born in Sioux City, Iowa and attending high school at Hinton Community School, just minutes north of Sioux City, a trip to cover the national tournament is a homecoming of sorts for Hamil. During his high school career, Hamil covered Hinton Blackhawk athletics by writing newspaper articles, taking football stats, being the video technician for basketball games, timing track meets, photographing golf meets and announcing baseball games over a span of three years.
Hamil continued his media career at Hastings College by working for HC Media. Hamil has worked to coordinate live sports productions of Hastings College athletic events as well as plan, coordinate and execute the live broadcasts and supplemental coverage for the NAIA DII Women’s Basketball National Championship. Hamil has directed the semifinal games for the past two years on ESPN3 and is excited that HC Media will now broadcast both the semifinal and championship games for ESPN3.
Hamil also has on-air experience commentating football, women’s and men’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer on HC Media’s live video streams and radio broadcasts. Additionally, he has served as weatherman, sports anchor and chief interviewer for BNN, HC Media’s weekly news show.
Allen has been recognized for his work at the national and state levels, as well as by his own peers within HC Media. He has received awards from the Society for Collegiate Journalists and the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association.
